EU Presidency
The Presidency of the Council of the EU plays an essential role in organising the work of the institution, particularly in promoting legislative and political decisions. It is responsible for organising and chairing all meetings, including the many working groups, and for brokering compromises. Each EU Member State, in accordance with a pre-established rota, takes a turn to hold the Presidency. Each Presidency lasts for for a period of six months (January-June and July-December).
Stop AIDS Alliance works with each EU Presidency to ensure that HIV/AIDS remains a priority issue on the EU's agenda. We organise EU Presidencies meetings on HIV/AIDS at regular intervals, at which representatives of the former, current and future EU Presidencies get together to discuss implementation of previous EU commitments and future strategies to address the global HIV/AIDS epidemic.
